9月5日，出席了OMY举办的新加坡部落格大奖颁奖典礼。哈哈，什么都没赢啦。其实
这已在预料之内。再什么说日本动漫这主题在本地并不是很主流。普通大众可能不
比同样和我有相同兴趣的人懂得我所blog东西。啊呀，有入围就很开心了。当初报
名也只是为了好玩，都没想到会进此项目的十强哈哈。

现在回想起来还真漫长，从5月报名到颁奖已经四个月了。如果能缩短到二至三个
月是最好不过了。最后，在此要感谢OMG看上小弟的部落格。明年有机会再来！

哦对了，我搬家了。有空来我的新家坐坐。 ^^;

9/5, attended the sgblog awards ceremony organized by OMY. Didn't win anything, haha. This is kinda expected as otaku/anime blogs aren't really that mainstream in Singapore. General public might not understand what I'm blogging about as compared to people with similar interests. Nevertheless, I'm happy to be nominated. Afterall i signed up for fun and never expected to make it into the top 10 of my category.

Thinking back now, 4 months has passed since the registration in May to the prize presentation in September. I felt that it will be better if it were to be reduced to 2 to 3 months. Lastly, i'll like to thank OMY for taking interest in my blog. Will try again next year if there's an opportunity.

National Day Parade Preview 2008

My n00b attempt at taking fireworks pictures at the National Day Parade Preview 2008.

Pardon me for the bad quality. It’s my virgin shot of fireworks taken with my digital camera and without a tripod. Image turned out noisy due to high ISO used. There’s lots of smoke in the air as well.

I was lucky to has won 2 tickets for this year’s National Day Parade. This one I went to was only a preview. The actual show will be next Saturday. The construction in the background is a Integrated Resort (IR), an euphemism the government gave for Casino.

Smoke in the sky in a form of a heart by F16 fighter jets.

End of the parade. All the performers gathered on the stage while the audiences make a mad rush for the exit.

Neglect

I feel like I am neglecting my loves ones. Take for example this white PSP Slim I bought last October. She has not been receiving much of my attention lately. In fact I don’t remember when the last time I held her.

I bought her out of peers’ influence since majority of people around me are getting one. The price is reasonable and the design is very appealing with its lean design and light weight. After acquiring her, I imagined myself playing with her during long journeys on the bus or the train. But I found that I will rather use the time to catch some shut-eye after a tiring day at work.

Anyway I don’t see myself picking her up and playing it anytime soon, the Internet is so much more fun. Is there anything/one you neglected lately?

Btw back then when the PSP Fat (I like to call it that) was released in 2005, owning one makes you the coolest kid in town. But nowadays it seems like everyone owns a PSP. I often see many indulging in their own world with their handhelds on public transports.

Yuki’s New Ride

After seeing Haruhi’s cool ride, Yuki decided to get a new ride of her own as well.

For the uninitiated, Yuki is riding on the GN Arms Type E from Gundam 00. It comes with a 1/144 Gundam Exia but I haven’t build it yet.

I didn’t take a lot of pics since there aren’t much poses I could do. Most of the pics didn’t turn out well to my liking. I wanted a totally blurred background so I zoomed out all the way using my digital camera. This affected the clarity and quality of the shots as one needs very steady hands to get a good shot. It’s so hard to get a decent blurred background with a digital camera. :-(

SG Blog Awards Interview and Danny Choo

Classic Mecha from My Childhood

Few weeks back, I stumbled upon a video on Len-Vesper’s blog where I saw something very nostalgic and familiar. I am referring to Golden Warrior Gold Lightan (黄金戦士ゴールド・ライタン), one of my favourite animes when I was a little boy in the early 90s.

Gold Lightan is a golden mecha shaped in the form of a lighter. It can transform itself into a giant mecha when combating enemy mecha. Gold Lightan and his mecha buddies are sentient and do not require pilots.

Most memorable is Gold Lightan’s trademark move in which he stab into the enemy mecha’s body pulling out and smashing the enemy’s critical mechanism.

The one I watched as a lad was dubbed in Chinese. The OP was in Chinese as well. I only managed to find the Japanese OP which you may watch here.

Special thanks to Len-Vesper for telling me the English name since I only remember the Chinese name. How many of you watch this anime before as well? ^^;

No Time for Gundam

I have been busy lately so that means lesser time to build my gunpla (damn you Diablo 2 for addicting me). There are still a few backlog kits lying around waiting for me to complete. The MG Force Impulse above Saber is holding is almost done. Speaking of Saber, I don’t even have time to recharge her mana as well. >.<

Btw I disabled the comment captcha so no more keying in of lousy and difficult to see alphabets when making a comment. Please let me know if this is better?

Konata Trooper

I received a most awesome gift yesterday. It was a hand drawn Konata T-shirt by Anonymous Coward. Man this is so cool! I will be sure to treasure it with love. ^^;

Not only that, Anonymous Coward also included this mini Konata figure as well. Thanks so much bro, I cannot describe how delighted I’m since I seldom receive gifts from people, not even on my birthday. This also makes it my first Konata figure. ^^;

Reservist Unit and Figma Mikuru

This is my reservist unit’s formation badge. My first ever ICT is coming up soon. I attended the briefing two days ago and will be going back for more action in two more months’ time.

Anyway, the main point is figma Mikuru arrived! Now Haruhi has someone to ~~bully~~ play with. Interestingly, danny mentioned here that figma Mikuru will go sale today in Japan but I got mine three days ago. ^^ Anyone gotten yours already?

Of Scarf and Chocolate: Figma Yuki Nagato

Not a popular fashion accessory due to the hot weather, a scarf is something you seldom see people on the streets wearing on this sunny island. And Yuki is a good example since mine isn’t wearing one.

Then again, limited editions of Yuki do come with a scarf with colours like white, yellow, orange, pink or mint green. I have seen yellow like the one below stolen from here but not the other 4 colours. Additionally seems like other than scarf, a box of chocolate is included as well to commemorate its release on Valentine’s Day.

Just curious, do you own a figma Yuki? Does it comes with a scarf and chocolate?

Singapore Cosfest 08 and Mikan Cosplayer

The above picture (for the uninitiated, Mikan from Air Gear) was stolen from tassardar. Why was it stolen? Well that’s because I wasn’t there for this 2 days annual event that happened last weekend. There was work commitment on Saturday and Sunday was spent clicking my mouse on the Diablo 2 server. It was fun. Every second of it. ^^;

So anyway enough about me. I read through most of the local anime bloggers’ coverage on the event and although the highlight was on Gundam Exia and KOS-MOS. both of them are great but for some reason I like this Mikan cosplayer the most. I admire her courage to pull this off and she was on inline-skates all day. Her feet must hurt like hell.

Claymore 81: Raki is GAR! Kamina Eat Your Heart Out!

Finally we see a GAR character in Claymore among all the masculine female warriors. I’m taking about Raki of course. Lots of Raki screen time in this new chapter which you may read here. Well Isley in my opinion just doesn’t make the cut for GARness.

Anyway looking forward, it’s interesting to speculate how the story will unfold. Pricilla is obviously fond of Raki. Clare and Raki certainly has feelings for each other (Images of the kiss pops once again to mind). Clare vows to take revenge on Pricilla. What will Clare do when she finds out that Raki was with Pricilla for the past 7 years?

Clare is actually a closet pedophile.
Good thing there's no Chris Hanson in her time.

All these matters of the heart almost made me forgot that Riful is up to no good again on the last page.

Confession of a Small Star Wars Fanboy

A humble collection of my Star Wars collection.

I was born in the year Return of the Jedi was released. My earliest memories of Stars Wars was watching 1977’s A New Hope on the television when I was a little boy. I can still remember the scene, Luke driving his landspeeder. ^^;

Above is my DVD collection considering of the original Star Wars trilogy boxset and Prequel Episode 2 and 3. I don’t have Episode 1: The Phantom Menace as I don’t kinda like the movie. Maybe it’s because of Jar Jar Binks. I’ll get it one day to complete the collection.

Btw, do you kow that Luke Skywalker's name was originally Luke Starkiller?

My miniature replica of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s lightsaber bought few years ago. Was planning to buy the 1:1 scale Force FX Lightsaber as well but it felt too much like a toy and the colour of the beam isn’t bright at all.

I’m a huge Lego fan as well and this Lego Ultimate Collector's AT-ST was bought at a bargain of only half the price. Was planning to get the AT-AT as well but dropped it as I do not have the space to display it. Furthermore price of Lego here is a killer.

Singapore Blogs Awards

Some months back I enlisted this humble blog for the Singapore Blogs Awards out of fun. I was shocked when I received an e-mail today notifying me that this blog is one of ten nominated for the "Most Entertaining Blog" category.

Well I can’t say my blog is really that entertaining as compared to other more established local anime blogs. If they were to take part, this little blog of mine wouldn’t even stand a chance at all. ^^;

Anyway public voting is now open till end of July and will account to 30% of the votes. The other 70% will be decided by the judges. One needs to register their e-mail and create a password to vote. The one thing I find strange is that any person, once his/her email is registered, can cast one vote for the same blog everyday. Wouldn’t this account to spamming of votes? Well I guess this is another popularity game whereby the one with the most fans willing to vote every day will win.

Btw voters stands a chance to win travel packages to Bangkok, Vietnam and a luxurious resort accommodation package in Phuket. I doubt anyone here will be interested in this right? Haha.

Ok to round things up, since I’m already in, might as well do some promotion for myself right? ^^; If anyone here finds that hey Gordon’s blog is alright it doesn't sux, please click the link above, look for my mecha girl mascot icon and vote for me. Singapore Toy & Comic Con Day 2 and Air Gear

The highlight of Day 2 of the Singapore Toy & Comic Con is without a doubt the anime cosplay competition. The stage area was packed with people with DSLRs of all shape and sizes. The Miku cosplayer on the right won 1st place. Her Ievan Polkka and Caramelldansen performance was very cute. Maybe one area of improvement I can suggest is to get a real leek instead of the artificial one she was carrying.

Oh btw, no point for me to post photos of the different cosplayers here since many other bloggers has already done it so I will just point you to click here for their coverage should you be interested to see more pics. Thanks to Panther linking all the coverage from the gang and others up.

Spotted this sexy back when I arrived at the hall. For the uninitiated, The lass was cosplaying as Soi Fong from Bleach. Used to be a Bleach fanboy and Soi Fong was my favourite taichou. Good thing I took this shot fast enough as shortly after this shot was taken, she put on her taichou robe and her sexy back was covered up.

The lovely lass with pink hair on the left is one of the judges for the cosplay competition. Have no ideas who she was cosplaying as initially so after doing some research, I found out that her character is Simca from Air Gear, an anime/manga about levitational Inline skater with moderate amount of fan service.

Had no ideas who the other judge on the right was cosplaying as. At first I thought he was Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man but after seeing a tail behind his back, I realised he was in actual fact Hellboy.

Pardon for the poor quality shot on this one as I was standing pretty far away from stage and had to zoom all the way in to take a shot. The poor lightning doesn’t help either.

Simca from the anime. Watched one episode of the anime and two chapters of the manga last night. Was this on your watch list? Recommendable?

The Fundamental Differences Between a Forum and a Blog

Prior to starting this blog, I was a regular member of two popular local forums for the past four years. Comparing a forum with a blog, both do share similarities like how one creates a thread/post, one expect people to read it and then comment on it. But there are differences as well. Please bear with me, as this is a long post.

Firstly, a common thing in a forum is what we call crappy threads, a thread that readers has no ideas at all what the author is talking about, a cock and bull story with no attached pictures to prove his/her claim or just simply trolls. Standard replies one will likely see in such a thread are “This thread sux!”, “Close and ban”, “LOL” or simply smiley.

In a forum, people are more straightforward and sometimes harsh in their replies. One of the possible reasons might be due to post counts. Forum people especially newer members are very concern of the amount of posts they have. Some view a high post count as a form of status and seniority thus will make a mad rush to post in every threads. That is perfectly normal. Hey even me myself do it when I first started out. The feeling is that one wants to be part of every discussion. I guess I have lots of time back then, unlike now.

So when one clicked on a crappy thread and find out one has just wasted one’s time reading it, the only way to get something worthwhile of this worthless thread is by posting a irrelevant comment to plus one to one’s post count. That is why even if a thread is crappy, it is not surprising to see pages of non-constructive replies flaming the authour. This is totally acceptable. It’s our way of telling the authour to stop spamming the fourms with your crappy threads.

But in a blog, people tend to post positive replies. Even if the topic isn’t interesting, at most people just don’t comment on it. You seldom see people criticizing and scolding one’s blog post right?

No! Not another crappy post.

This behaviour can be further explained by categorizing a forum as a coffee shop and a blog as one’s house. It’s ok for one to make commotion in a coffee shop or any public places since it is open to all, everyone is free to voice their feelings but you do not get people coming to your house and telling you that you sux right?

Secondly, forum people hate newbies. They dislike newbies asking the same questions that had been answered before in previous threads over and over again, newbies who expect to be spoon-fed with answers without doing a simple search first, newbies who post in the wrong place, newbies who didn’t read the guidelines before posting etc. Nobody blames you for asking a n00b question in a blog right?

To wind things up before it gets too long, one must be thick skin, open minded and able to take criticism to survive in a forum. Btw whatever I mentioned above, I’m guilty of committing. I just wanted to share my thoughts and get your opinion. Feel free to discuss.

Clare Goes on a Hunt

Clare surveys her surrounding with watchful eyes. With graceful steps, she marches on silently. Her heighten senses tells her that what she is looking for is within the area. Like a seasoned predator, she waits patiently, waiting for her target to make a wrong move. The fugitive yoma will not be her match.

Last Saturday me and the gang consisting of Panther, Squee, Jon, Raven, Fariz Asuka and Hirito met up for a figure photo shoot.

There is a group shot of ourselves which you may view it at either our team blue blog or at Jon and Fariz’s blog.

The figures fall in for a group shot. I have listed the names of their owners as well.

This Mikuru frog nendoroid puchi which Hirito gotten as a free gift from KKnM is so cute! DO WANT!

Clare tries out a diiferent weapon other than her claymore. The guandao from Squee’s Kanu looks pretty good on Clare. The colour also suits her armour as well.

Conclusion
It was a fun day and I learnt a few things about DSLR from Jon and Squee. Jon was kind enough to let me try out his D40 with a few shots. Thanks both. ^^;

The Incredible Hulk

Dear Dad,

How are you doing? Times sure files doesn’t it? It has been years since we last met. I wanted to visit last year but I was told by the Army you were busy with work.

I’m doing well. I’m now teaching Physics at a university, something I always wanted to do. I also met a guy in school, he teaches Physics too. He is a nice person but I find that somehow I could not bring myself to proceed further in the relationship beyond friends. Deep down I still love Bruce very much.

I know you are still mad with Bruce with what happened 5 years ago. You know it was not his fault, it was an accident. I heard rumours that the Army is searching for Bruce with intentions of harvesting the thing inside him as a weapon. Please tell me all these are not true Dad.

I read in the news that a giant green monster was sighted in a soft drink bottling factory in Brazil not long ago. I strongly believe this is Bruce. I’m so glad to hear that he is still alive. Dad please promises me you will not try to capture him. You know that this will just cause more harm than good.

Mr Cosplay Otaku House and Rin Cosplayer

Located on the third floor of Suntec City Mall, Mr. Cosplay’s Otaku House is a shop that specialises in cosplay outfits and accessories. When I visited the shop not too long ago, what caught my attention was the membership card pasted at the counter. On the card is this beautiful Rin cosplayer. She looks absolutely gorgeous. ^^;

One can get the card either by completing the loyalty card or by purchasing it at $15. I was rather tempted to buy the card that day. ^^;

So if anyone is around the area, do give the shop a visit. Btw what do you folks think of the Rin cosplayer?

Army Babe Nida Schuetlich

I hate my job. It’s another boring day in camp. I was about to doze off when the phone started ringing.

“Yes hello?”
“Good morning Sir, this is Sergeant Lim from S1, the guardhouse just called and wishes to inform that the new officer for your department has arrived and is now waiting at the gate. CO wants you to personally orientate the new officer around the unit.”
Oh great I thought to myself, a babysitting job. “OK sergeant. Tell CO I’ll be on my way”

Upon arriving at the guardhouse, I started looking for the new guy when suddenly I felt someone tapping on my shoulder. I turned around and in front of me stood the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. A pretty girl in bright purple hair dressed in smart army uniform.

“Are you CPT Gordon, S3 of the unit?" She asked.
“Yes I’m and who might you be?”
“My name is Lieutenant Nida, your new deputy S3 officer. Nice to meet you Sir.”

YATTA! I love my job!

Nida is the 4th figure in the Shuraki series and is based on Shunya Yamashita’s drawing. She’s my favourite out of the five figures released so far. ^^;

The gothloli Asuka figure on the right is one of my earliest figures and also one of my favourites.

On the wall are posters of all the MG gundams released till Dec 07 on the left and Spiderman 2 on the right. Doctor Octopus is my favourite Spidey villain.

Next to the door is this triple shelves with figures, mangas and empty boxes on the top. Got the Lego Star Wars AT-ST at a bargain last year.

Dircetly under the figures shelves is where I keep my storm trooper helmet. Still lack armour though. Beside the helmet are boring clothes I wore to boring work.

And finally the place I spent most of my time at, the computer. Its not located inside my room as I share my room with my brother. There’s no more space for it. The computer desk and detolf glass cabinet on the right is where majority of my figures are.

The Not So Secret Origin of the Nameless Mascot

The creation of the mecha girl in my banner was accidental in nature. It came from this post at dannychoo.com about a bust of an anime girl. A bust is a sculpture of a person’s head, shoulder and chest. So FatB, a fellow member suggested why not give her Fauna 's lower half and a pair of Gundam arms.

Inspired by FatB’s comment, I did some cut and paste in Paint (didn’t have Photoshop at that time) and came out with this.

kintaro, another fellow member saw it and did a sketch. Danny suggested I use it as my mascot for my site but back then I didn’t have a blog so didn’t put it to use. Kintaro has also agreed to let me keep her.

The mascot was part of the reason I started a blog since I did not want the picture to be wasted. ^^;

Haruhi Goes Sightseeing

For those wondering what’s in the box yesterday. Sorry to disappoint, it’s not Gwyneth Paltrow’s head. ^^;

I was going to bring Haruhi out for a tour of the town but the morning sky doesn’t look too good. Looks like its going to rain anytime. Haruhi wasn’t too happy.

So we decided to stay indoor until the sky gets better. Haruhi checking out the SOS dan website.

By noon the sun finally came out so off we go.

We had lunch at Long John Silvers. They have this limited time only chicken peg leg meal which consists of 1 piece chicken, 3 chicken peg legs, fries, some chicken pops, a drink and two packets of chili. Yummy.

Evangelion 1.01 Booklet and DVD Giveaway

The Evangelion 1.01 DVD introductory booklet finally arrived in the mail together with a replacement DVD for my faulty one. Tested and it works. Scene 6 is able to go over to scene 7 smoothly without any problems.

The introductory booklet (in red) isn’t very interesting. It’s a wordy read. I only managed to read through the first few pages where the film markers explained the concept of the new Eva movies and also introduction of the characters. Beyond that it starts to get boring with technical details on how the movie is made.

Anyway now that I have a new DVD, I will like to give away my faulty one. The DVD is region code 3. The only issue is that when scene 6 ends it will go back to the main menu instead of to scene 7. You must manually select scene 7 to continue watching the movie. Other than this small glitch, everything else is OK.

So if your DVD player or PC is able to play code 3 discs and you are ok with the bug, please drop a comment here with your e-mail address in this format xxx [at] xxx [dot] com. In case more that one person is interested, please select a random number from 1 to 20. The one whose number is the same or closest as to what I have in mind will win. Childhood Toy

This 1978 Casio calculator has been with my family for over 20 years. I remember playing with it when I was kid. I was surprised it is still with us when I saw it in the house recently. Amazingly it still works! ^^;

It runs on two AA batteries with an on/off switch at the side. The display is made up of nine green LEDs which mean you can do calculations in the dark. Aren't that cool?

If anyone is wondering will playing with the calculator at a young age makes one good with maths. I’m sorry to say it didn’t work for me. I’m terrible at maths. lol.

Apart from this calculator, the other home appliance in my house that deserves a long service medal is our refrigerator. It is also over two decades old and still in working condition. My previous PC was 7 years old when I throw it away early this year.

How about you guys and girls, what is the oldest appliance in your house?

I tried calling multiple times but no one answered my calls. Where have you been anyway? Your colleagues at the college told me you were abducted by Soviet soldiers to infiltrate a military base in the Nevada desert. And in your escape, stumbled upon a nuclear test town and survived a nuclear blast by hiding in a refrigerator? Nice try Indy, please come out with more believable excuses in future.

Your neighbours also told me you were heading for Peru looking for the grave of Francisco de Orellana whoever that might be. Now rumors are flying of you finding a skull made entirely of crystal and believe it to be from an extraterrestrial life-form?

All these stories seems pretty far-fetched to me. More importantly, Indy hasn’t you had enough of adventures? You are not young anymore in case you haven’t noticed. Going around looking for long lost treasures that might not even exist. I don’t know how long your heart can take all these.

Well nagging aside, I heard you met up with your ex-girlfriend whom you have not seemed in over 20 years. She also told you have a son. What a surprise. Well at least something good do happened and I’m happy for you.

Finally completed. This 1/100 Gundam Exia kit is amazing. I almost felt like I was building an MG. It has its own little internal frame and flexible joints like a MG. Definitely one of the best 1/100 non-MG kit I have done so far.

Previously I mentioned I got a free Ryoko nendroid petit from KKnM. Not really my favourite out of the lot so I was delighted when bj0rN was willing to exchange with me his Harui (above). A win win situation for both. Thanks again bj0rN.

Since we are on the topic of nendroid petit, I never collected any of them prior to the free gift. Much preferred normal 1/8 scale PVC figures. But recently while I was reading through a forum, I chanced upon this picture of Konata nendroid petit which is like so cute~!

A Singapore Success Story

Ok this may be old news but I wanna share this story anyway. Yesterday I visited a blog by a fellow Singaporean working in the animation industry in Tokyo, Japan. Vong yonghow is a computer graphics artist who in November 2006 landed a job with Sunrise, one of Japan’s leading animation firms. Back then not only was he possibly the first Singaporean to work on a major animation project but also the first foreigner to work in Sunrise as well. He was in the local papers last year which you may read it here.

I will write a brief summary in case anyone is too lazy to read the article (shame on you!). Yonghow’s major achievement includes working on a short animation series titled Freedom commissioned by Nissin Cup Noodles for their 35th Anniversary.

Prior to the project he studied filmmaking for 2 years in Toho Gakuen Film Techniques Training College, and has been living in Japan since April 2004 after been awarded the Takashimaya National Arts Council film scholarship. The Victoria School alumni majored in animation during his days in Temasek Polytechnic and were given a Young Designers Awards by the Design Association of Singapore for his final year project, a 2D mixed with 3D short animation.

Those interested to know more about him can check out his blog here. I must say I’m very inspired after reading his story. It proves once again dreams can be fulfilled if one put their heart to it. According to his recent blog posts, he will be starting his new job soon. I will therefore like to wish him good luck and all the best in his future endeavours. You have certainly done us proud.

Hmm…. It’s about time to rethink my life. orz

Evangelion 1.01 And Good After Sales Customer Service

In my previous post I mentioned there was a bug in my Evangelion 1.01 DVD in which the end of scene 6 cannot transact to scene 7. Not sure am I the only one having this problem but others I know do not have this problem.

So one day after the post was published, I received an e-mail from the DVD distributor informing me that they will mail a new DVD to me together with the introductory booklet.

I was delighted but I also wonder how do they know I have a faulty DVD? After thinking through it, I came to the conclusion that it must be the e-mail address I wrote inside the reply slip to redeem the introductory booklet. I wrote gordonator_blogspot @ xxx as my e-mail so I guess whoever got the slip saw it and visited my blog. He/She must had read my entry the day before and decided to take the initiative to replace my DVD.

Good customer service do exist after all and I very thankful for that.

Welcome to Singapore Polytechnic, the place where I spent 3 years of my life earning my diploma. ^^;

Oh btw, if anyone looking at the above picture thought I just graduated, I'm not actually. I graduated 5 donkey years ago. ('~')

I was an engineering student from the school of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE). Not really a subject I’m particularly interested in but that’s what fate put me into.

This is T12 where all the laboratories are. Other than circuits and resistors, they do biological experiments, nuclear research and cloning as well.

This is block T14 where I attended most of my lectures and tutorials. Level 1 is actually the basement, level 2 is the lecture theaters, level 3 is the exhibition room of student’s project works, level 4 to 8 are all computer labs now. During my time there used to be normal classrooms in there but they eventually renovated it to PC labs.

Btw, there’s no block 13 in the campus? Not sure why. Superstitious?

This is how a lecture theater looks like. This is where I spent of my time ~~sleeping~~ listening to lectures. If the class gets too boring, the mates and I will just make our exit and proceed to the nearby gaming café for a game of counter-strike. Those were the good old days. ^^;

There used to be a big lecture theater here, now all that is left of it is an empty plot of land and a staircase leading to nowhere.

A train station is just outside the school. The design is very nice, one of the best looking in Singapore. During my first year, it was still been built.

This used to be my favourite hangout in campus, The Self Access Learning Centre (SALC), a place when you can use the Internet and download stuffs that you shouldn’t be downloading in school. When I was a student, I didn’t have broadband at home so I do all my Internet surfing at school. They should really get someone to change the sign, looks shabby.

This machine on the right is where you scan your student pass and book a station. Once your time is up, it will automatically log you out. If you don’t leave, security will arrive and throw you out.

This is Food Court 4, one of my favourite eating-places in school. Too bad the place is closed as I went on a weekend.

Final thoughts

It had been 5 years since I graduated and much in the school has changed since I left. New building were built, old buildings got torn down. Looking back I enjoyed my 3 years in Singapore Poly. My grades weren’t that great, I’m pretty much an average person. I particularly enjoyed my third year and doing my gradation project with a friend. We got an ‘A’ and I’m real proud of it. ^^;

One of the things I also noticed is that it seems most students own a laptop now. I saw many people using it in the food court and study areas. During my time not many uses laptop in campus as there wasn’t any wireless Internet back then.

There was a Gundam 00 modelling competition not long ago. I was at Ngee Ann City the other day and saw the participating entries on display at the basement where a toy sale is going on. My favourite is the above Gundam Virtue casting off into Gundam Nedleeh. The modeler really did a good job in securing the armour in midair. I’m very impressed.

Bad News. Its official, Funimation has licensed Gunslinger Girl season II. Well Triad, I hope you all are happy now. You have the chance to finish the project months ago but you all choose not to. Good job.

Good News. As a consolation, episode 7 was released before the announcement.

Bad News. The torrent’s been taken down from most site so those interested please get it quick.

Loyalty

I will say I’m a loyal person. If I’m happy with a brand, I’ll keep using it. Take for example my mobile phone. I have been using Nokia for 7 years now. My current phone is the Xpressmusic 5310, it’s not the best compared to the other brands. Its camera quality sucks, mp3 playback is alright but it hangs occasionally and arranging all the songs into categories is a pain in the neck. Only thing I like about it is its slimness and big resolution. Despite the flaws, I’ll continue using Nokia. Stubborn or loyal I don’t know?

Speaking of Nokia, I remember 8 years ago when mobile phone was getting widespread. Everyone seems to own a Nokia. Thanks to its successful marketing and design, Nokia was so cool back then. It doesn’t have an ugly antenna like most phones do. The casing can be changed and customized. And not forgetting the Snake game that everyone is so addicted to. I don’t know about the rest of you but that seems to be the case with the people around me during that time.

Oh btw, my phone wallpaper is my persocom Chii whom I photographed sitting by the window this afternoon. Isn’t she adorable? ^^;

A series of mysterious deaths occurred recently. A handful of people yet unenclosed by the police died from heart attack at the same time on the same day.

Official police statement states that all of the deceased are witnessed at various toy stores purchasing large quantity of gundam model kits before their deaths. It is currently unknown what contributed to this strange common behavior. When asked whether supernatural forces are at work here, a police spokesperson only said investigation is still ongoing.

Blood Donation

Keroro is seen here holding a stress ball given to me when I went for a blood donation yesterday. This is my first time donating blood. The experience was eye-opening. They are very cautious in selection and made us fill in this questionnaire with some interesting questions like have you been to Europe for the past few years, did you have sex with more than one party / with another male recently etc. Even if your answer is yes would you write it down?

Anyway the medical staffs were friendly and professional. My blood type O is what motivated me to go for the donation since it can be use for other blood types. You never know when your one small bag of blood can save another person's life.

Recently I submitted an entry for a Nikon photography contest. The topic of this contest is “Patterns”. The above pic of neatly placed tombstones is my submission for this contest.

The pattern is not very obvious in the picture. I know I don’t stand much of a chance compared to the professionals with their DSLRs who will be taking part as well. But the process of looking for a suitable subject was fun nevertheless. It made me pay more attention to my surroundings.

Special thanks to pp who inspired me to take this picture. The idea came to me after reading his blog post of his visit to the cemetery.

Amuro Ray’s Holiday

Amuro Ray landed in Singapore recently. The first place he went to was Ngee Ann City in the heart of Orchard Road. But seems to me he is having some trouble finding a parking lot. Photo’s taken by Jinfeng83.

Speaking of which, Ngee Ann City is one of the biggest shopping mall in Singapore. Kinokuniya Bookstore is on the third floor. They have a huge selection of English, Chinese and Japanese books and a large collection of American/Japanese comic/manga as well.

Orchard Road is currently undergoing a face-lift. Construction and renovation can be seemed everywhere.

Yuki’s Day at the Beach

Even a humanoid interface from the Integrated Data Entity needs a break from observing Haruhi-sama sometimes. That is when I decided to bring Yuki to the beach at Sentosa for a day of relaxation. ^^

Upon arriving at the beach, Yuki told me that she didn’t have a swimsuit. Well that’s ok since there a swimsuit store by the beach. Inside the shop I felt rather awkward standing beside Yuki in the lady swimsuits section. The lady store clerk kept giving me weird stares and I swear I saw her giggling. Among all the bikinis on display, Yuki picked a blue coloured one piece.

I must say I was rather taken aback at Yuki’s choice since nowadays people seldom wear one piece anymore. But surprisingly the one piece looks great on Yuki. The blue colour is a large plus too. It’s my favourite colour. ^^;

After changing, Yuki walked to a shady spot under a tree and began reading her book. “Yuki! What are you doing? We are at the beach not at the library. C’mon!” I said to her. After looking at me blankly for a moment, Yuki put down her book and as if uncomfortable with what she is wearing, she began adjusting her swimsuit. Good thing I have my camera with me. ^^

Coincidentally, Rei and Asuka were at Sentosa as well. Not wanting to miss out on this opportunity, I asked them to take a photograph together and they agreed.

Bikini Rei and Asuka are two of my earliest and favourite figures. As you can see, not only does Yuki looks like Rei, both of them spots the same pose as well, adjusting their swimsuit. ^^

Figure Review

Swimsuit Yuki is a 1/8 scale PVC figure from Alter. Other than common flaws of PVC figures like seam lines on the hairpiece and thighs, the quality of this figure is pretty decent. Yuki’s mouth looks too small though but that’s ok no biggie.

The one piece suits Yuki very well. A bikini will be kinda out of place with her character. The pose is also made of win. Simply love the way she adjusts her swimsuit. In conclusion this is a good figure worth getting. Afterall this is a sexy side of Yuki we seldom get to see.

Gacha-Gacha: Singapore’s First Anime

Singapore finally has its own locally produced anime. Titled Gacha-Gacha, the story is about a Japanese girl Asuka (second from the left) and her adventures in Singapore with her three friends.

Produced and animated by 77 Star, a company set up by Japanese Enomoto Shinya, the series is planned for 24 episodes running at 5 minutes each. Like all animes, there is an opening and closing song and even a sponsor message at the beginning as well. Majority of the staffs are Singaporeans and so are the seiyuu too.

Those interested can watch it here. New episode will be uploaded every Tues. Only 4 episodes will be shown at any one time. Meaning to say when episode 5 is released, episode 1 will be gone. (I wonder why they would do that?)

After watching the first episode, I must say although not the best but it's a good effort nonetheless. As they say, Rome isn't built in a day. Everything starts with small steps. right?

The girls are playing Kurohige Kiki Ippatsu (黒ひげ危機一発) aka pop-up pirate. Gameplay consists of inserting plastic swords into slots in the side of the barrel. One random slot will eject the pirate and end the game.

Shown here is the Kotobukiya Non-scale Gurren Lagann model kit which cost me 3800YEN. The size is similar to a 1/144 scale Gundam. Its kinda expensive compared to a Gundam kit of the same proportion. But I bought it anyway as this is hard to find in Singapore and this is the last one in the store.

Outdoors Figure Photoshoot

I love taking photos of figures outdoor. Primary reason is that I like how the figure blends in with the surrounding, providing an atmosphere that makes the figure stands out even more. Furthermore the sun is an excellent light source. Secondary reason is I do not have a decent studio setup and bright lamps at home. Not to mention a lack of space as well.

Anyway the thing I want to discuss today is that from what I read from some fellow bloggers who do shoot their figures outdoor and those who want to but did not, the common thing they brought up is that they are uncomfortable with getting weird stares from passersby. Well I guess that’s understandable, I would have felt the same too if people just stand there and look at me. But so far the locations I choose for my shoots has very little human traffic. Occasionally one or two will just walk past and take a glance. I’m fine with that.

So my point is, if you are interested in shooting your figures outdoors, just do it. Don’t worry about what other people think of you. It’s not like you are doing anything wrong. Follow your heart.

I will also like to recommend some bloggers who takes excellent outdoors shots. They are Moé Moé Rabu, Dancing Queen and Mukyaa. If anyone here take outdoors shots of figures or know of blogs (other than the three mentioned) who does so please let me know. I will love to see them. ^^;

Two more months to go to the new Batman movie, I enjoyed Batman Begins very much and is looking forward to the sequel. In case you are looking for the official Dark Knight website, there isn’t any (yet?) because Warner Bros has created lots of viral sites instead. Shunya Yamashita’s Shion Bust

Thank you for coming back. Continuing from yesterday’s post, here we have Shion, another original character from Shunya Yamashita. Similar to Niniane, she is made of porcelain, naked (unless you count the bracers) and carries a sword.

I bought Shion last year but back then I don’t have a blog nor am I interested in photography so didn’t take any shots of her. Since I was shooting Niniane a few days back, I decided to include her as well.

Shunya Yamashita's Niniane Bust

Finally got the time to take some pictures of Niniane which I bough few weeks ago. Manufactured by Kotobukiya, Niniane is based on an original drawing from famous Japanese illustrator Shunya Yamashita. It is made of porcelain and as with busts; it comes with no legs.

The next series of pics are semi-NSFW and is somehow not recommended to be viewed at school or at work.

Niniane holds an interesting looking sword which I like very much. Some called it the guitar sword as her posture looks like she is playing the guitar

The Not So Secret Origin of Gordonator

Many of you know me as Gordon but in actual act, that’s not my real name. It’s my alias online.

It all started around 10 years ago with the game Half Life. It was the most awesome game I have ever played. It tells the story of a silent hero Gordon, his quest to stop an alien invasion and make it home in time for dinner.

What I love about the game is that there are no cut scenes in between levels. Everything unfolds by itself as you proceed through the game. Gordon never spoke a single word in the game. It gave you the feeling that you are really in the boots of Gordon from a first person perspective witnessing all the mayhem.

The game was so awesome I decided to adopt the name Gordon whenever I play games like Counter-Strike. So what’s with the ‘ator” suffix? Well first off, I did not copy from Japanator. I believe Japanator was started in late 2006, I registered my nickname Gordonator at a local forum in mid 2004. Anyway I can’t remember when I came across someone by the name of Kevinator at another forum. I thought it sounded pretty cool so decided to add ”ator” to my nickname as well.

And there you have it, the not-so-secret origin of my life. This post will be made into a "About Me" tag which I will put up in the near future. And lastly thank you for wasting 2 minutes of your life reading about me.

Kenpachi Fried Chicken

A new eatery opened up in town recently. Not sure about the food as I haven’t been to it yet. But words have it that the boss is a 2m tall giant with spiky hair, has a huge scar on the left side of his face, wears an eye patch over his right eye and carry around a jagged sword.

Rumours also have it that whoever didn’t finish up his/her food will be challenged to a one on one duel by the boss. Whoever wins will be entitled one set of free lunch but so far none has survived to claim the offer.

23rd April Secretary’s Day

Every year, the Wednesday of the last full week of April is known as Secretary’s Day aka Administrative Professionals Day to recognise the work of secretaries, admin assistants, receptionists etc.

Talking about secretaries, have you all met my new secretary Yoko (above)? She is such an energetic and cheerful girl it’s a joy to come to job everyday. ^^

Last week, she asked me whether she can dress casually on Friday. I thought why not since its Casual Friday so I gave my permission for her to go ahead. Last Friday I got a shock of my life when she came to worked dressed in a red hot flaming bikini! She told me that’s what she wears all the time outside work. O_O

I couldn’t concentrate on work that day ~~due to excessive nose bleeding~~ so I took the day off. Oh btw, I also gave Yoko a pay rise and canceled all my appointments for Friday.

Abandoned Pet

Yesterday while on my way home, something in the alley caught my attention. Upon closer inspection, it turns out to be an abandoned pet in a box. But this one is different. It kept on saying the same word over and over again. “Lockon, Lockon, Lockon”. There’s a letter inside and this is what it reads.

Dear whoever finds this,

Hi. Thank you for picking this up. Inside this box is Haro who looking for a new owner. Not long ago, Haro’s previous owner met with an unfortunate accident and will not be able to take care of Haro anymore.

Under difficult circumstances and the nature of my work in which I am unable to disclose, I would not be able to take care of Haro as well. After much consideration, I have come to a painful decision to give Haro up for adoption.

Haro is highly intelligent and needs little maintenance. Haro is good with the computer as well and can search the internet for information within seconds.

“YATTA! ^o^ It’s finally my turn now!” shouted Misato with joy while all her colleagues looked on with astonishment on their faces inside NERV Headquarters.

That’s right. Misato finally got her quality PVC treatment with is this lovely 1/8 scale figure from Kotobukiya based on the Evangelion 1.0 movie.

I’m glad that there’s finally a decent Misato figure since Rei and Asuka always get the spotlight in terms of the number of figures made based on them. When I heard about there's going to be a Misato figure last year, I pre-ordered it without hesitation.

Gunslinger Girl -Il Teatrino-

Cheers! Fan-subbed episode 6 of Gunslinger Girl -Il Teatrino- has finally been released! The series had already ended its current season last month but the team behind this project stopped subbing it after episode 5. Intelligences gathered by my team of highly trained monkeys suggested that the team abandoned this for another series. Now that they have finished their current project, they are now back to subbing Gunslinger Girl -Il Teatrino-. Well better late than never I guess.

Frequent visitors of dannychoo.com will definitely know of chun, who is a regular member at Danny’s site.

But bet you don't know that chun was actually a well-known illustrator and comic books artist back in the early 90s. She released quite a few books and draws regularly for the local Chinese papers till today. Her talent in drawing beautiful portraits of females is what made me a fan of her works. ^^

The above picture shows two of her books in my collections. The one on the left is a book on Chinese proverbs with pictures illustrated by her and the right is a comic book based on a TV series bought in 1995.

When I found her at Danny’s blog, I was kinda shocked that she is now based in Canada and is happily married with a cat and two hamsters. ^^
